Services: Provides volunteer assistance for seniors in filling out basic income tax forms at public libraries and senior centers in the weeks preceding filing time. Provides training and support to tax-aide.

Services: Provides a class on safe driving practices. People who complete the program may receive a discount on their automobile insurance.

Services: Provides statewide information and referral regarding services and related to people with disabilities. Also maintains a list of used assistive technology items/durable medical equipment for sale or donation. Provides information about Americans with Disabilities Act.

PROGRAMS:

Alternatives Program ..........................468-2459
Services: Provides services for adults who are at risk for nursing home placement. Services may include: case management, assistance with bathing, grooming, homemaking, emergency response system and adult day care. Eligibility guidelines. Call for more information.

Bridges Program .................................468-2188
Services: Volunteers age 45+ spend 1-4 hours a week in the classroom with children ages kindergarten through sixth grade. Provides academic help and friendship.

Caregiver Support Hotline ...................468-2460
Services: Provides support for family caregivers of older adults. Services include information, assessment and plan of care, training for caregivers, and support groups. Respite care and supplemental services also may be available on a limited short-term basis. Interventions are designed to reduce the caregiver?s stress and complement their in-home care.

Services: Provides basic yard care and snow clearing to frail Salt Lake County seniors (age 60+) who have no other resources.

Foster Grandparent Program ..............468-2474
Senior Companion Program
Services: Provides volunteer opportunities for low-income seniors age 60 and over to work with children with special needs or frail and isolated seniors. The volunteers must serve a minimum of 20 hours a week and are paid a $2.65 an hour stipend.

Health Insurance Information Program ..468-2480
Services: Provides volunteers to assist seniors with health insurance questions.

Healthy Aging Program .......................468-2772
Services: Provides education and health promotion programs including health screening clinics. Offers adult immunization program, lifestyle improvement, and ESL classes.

LEGACY CORPS FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING .......... 468-2248
Services:
Provides volunteer opportunities for people who are over 18 years of age, and willing to commit to 450 hours of service in a twelve month period. Volunteers provide in-home respite to caregivers and their elderly loved ones. The volunteers receive a living stipend of $2200 during the year, and an education award of $1250 for use at any college or university upon completion of the 450-hour commitment.

Meals on Wheels Program .................. 468-2450
Services:
Provides home delivered meals to frail homebound seniors age 60+ who lack other resources for meal preparation.

Ombudsman Program ..........................468-2854
Services: Investigates complaints and concerns for individuals who reside in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Provides information related to long term care issues.

Outreach Program ................................468-2480
Services: Provides information about aging-related services and assistance in linking individuals with those services. Completes in-home assessments to assist individuals 60+ with problems and needs.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program ..468-2490
Services: Provides volunteer opportunities for seniors 55+ working in a variety of settings.

Senior Employment Program .................468-2785
Services: Provides job search activities for individuals age 55 and over. Also provides paid job training programs for low income individuals who are able to work 20 hours a week; eligible applicants earn minimum wage.

Transportation Program ........................468-2464
Services: Provides donation-based transportation services to Salt Lake County residents 60 and older, who have no other means of transportation. Rides can be scheduled up to one week in advance for life essential destinations such as doctor appointments, prescription pick-ups, physical therapy, and visits to a loved one in a care facility. Standing order rides are available for dialysis, chemotherapy and radiation. Group grocery shopping is available on a limited basis.

Services: Provides volunteer support and assistance to all Aging Service volunteer programs. Offers many unique and varied opportunities for volunteer services.
